Six Sigma Belts
The six sigma certification comes in various skill levels: White Belt, Yellow Belt, Green, Black Belt and Master Black Belt. These certifications can be obtained through an accreditation body like the American Society for Quality (ASQ). (Total 6 levels)
- Six Sigma White Belt: It is the basic level of certification that deals with the basic Six Sigma concepts. White belts support change management in an organization and engage with local problem-solving teams that assist projects.
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt: At this level, you know the specifics of Six Sigma, and how and where to apply it. You will support project teams on problem-solving tasks.
- Six Sigma Green Belt At this level, you understand advanced analysis and can resolve problems that affect quality. Green belts lead projects and assist black belts with data collection and analysis.
- Six Sigma Black Belt: Black belts are experts and agents of change. They provide training in addition to leading projects.
- Six Sigma Master Black Belt: This is the highest level of Six Sigma achievement. At this level, you will shape strategy, develop key metrics, act as a consultant, and coach black and green belts.
Candidates can directly go for any belt.

About The Exam
- IASSC certification exams are available through the IASSC Web-Based On-Demand testing system and through IASSC Accredited Providers authorized to facilitate IASSC Exams
- All exam questions are multiple choice and true/false.
- The IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Exam™ is a 100 question
- Closed book, proctored exam
- IASSC Exam Candidates are allowed up to 4 hours for the IASSC Certified Black Belt Exam, up to 3 hours for the IASSC Certified Green Belt Exam and up to 2 hours for the IASSC Certified Yellow Belt Exam.
- Some forms of this exam may also include up to an additional 10 non-graded questions.
- Candidates must sit for the IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Exam and achieve a minimum score of 70%
Exam Preparation Tips
- Lean Six Sigma training is obtained through a qualified institution, Lean Six Sigma trainer or corporate program.
- IASSC offers a non-proctored (informal) Green Belt Evaluation Exam that may help you determine if you are ready to sit for an official proctored Certification Exam.
Certification/ Recertification / Professional Development
- Upon successful achievement, Professionals will receive IASSC Green Belt Certification issued by the IASSC.
- IASSC Certification is recognized perpetually. In accordance with the IASSC Recertification Policy, a classification system recognizes certifications as “Current” for a period of three years and defines regulations for maintaining such Status.
- Recertification exams are limited to two attempts per Professional, which must be separated by a minimum time period of two weeks.
- A failed recertification will result in an Elapsed status being applied to Certification; the Certification will not be revoked.
- Recertification Exams must be conducted prior to the date of Elapse or no longer than 90 days after the Elapse. If a professional fails to pass the Recertification Exam within this time frame, a permanent Elapsed status will be applied to Certification.
- Professionals who successfully achieve Recertification will receive an updated Certificate (PDF) reflecting successful recertification.
Exam Day
- A valid government issued ID must be presented at the test center.
- Blank scratch paper which must be destroyed after exam session.
- Smart phones and other electronic devices are NOT PERMITTED.
Exam Fail / Retest
- Each IASSC exam voucher is only valid for one attempt at an exam. If you do no pass, you will need to purchase another exam voucher if you wish to retake it.
- Any subsequent sittings must be at least three months apart from the most recent failed sitting.
Refund Policy
- Evaluation Exam Vouchers you purchase from IASSC or the IASSC Processing Center are eligible for refund and exchange if we receive your request within twenty four (24) hours of the time of purchase.
- Refunds or exchanges requested after twenty four (24) hours of the time of purchase may be denied.
- On-Demand Web-Based Exam Vouchers you purchase from IASSC or the IASSC Processing Center are eligible for refund and exchange if we receive your request within fifteen (15) days of the date of purchase.
- Paper Based Exams you purchase from IASSC or the IASSC Processing Center are eligible for refund or exchange if we receive your request within fifteen (15) days of the date of purchase
Renewal / Annual Fee
- This Six Sigma Green Belt CERTIFICATION is valid for three years and must be renewed by emailing cs@iise.org.
- There will be a $25 fee to cover administrative costs associated with the renewal.
- Lost certificates may be replaced using the same process.
Use Of The Six Sigma Credential
- An IASSC Certified Green Belt is issued a Certificate (PDF) which includes a Certification Number, a badge (.png file)
- A professional designation which may be used in resumes and public profiles such as LinkedIn, consistent with the IASSC Marks Use Policy.
